Replacement Windows and Doors in Arlington Heights, Illinois
There are generally a lot of things to consider with regard to replacement windows that homeowners don’t tend to think about them all before they make their decision. For one thing, they might choose the wrong company and are talked into making a purchase without all of the proper information. This happens all too often, especially with some larger companies that rely on salespeople to sell their windows.
But wait, don’t most companies rely on salespeople? Sure, but that doesn’t make it right. When someone goes to look at an above ground pool, they might not know much about them. Suddenly the salesperson is mentioning a host of terms about the pool, the filters, the permits that they’ll need, decking to meet code in their town and so on. Then they’ll close with the offer that’s almost too good to be true. In other words, they’re going to pressure the customer into making a decision as quickly as possible. The customer doesn’t want to miss out on the deal and the salesperson sounds like he or she knows what they’re talking about, so they go ahead and make the deal, only to discover later on that they could have save more money somewhere else and that they didn’t really need some of the features that they were sold on.
Now, when it comes to windows for your home, there are so many options to choose from that you might end up feeling confused in the beginning. The last thing that you should have to deal with, or endure, is a pushy salesperson adding to the pressure that you may feel.
Glazing? Low-E? Krypton gas? What are all of these things? Don’t worry about it, they simply refer to some of the aspects of windows that you should get. By the way, this price that I’m quoting you on is only good for this week. The prices will likely go up on Monday, so you have to act now to lock in these great prices!
Please. Who needs that? At All Star Windows, you won’t have to face any kind of salespeople because you’ll deal with the owner of the company. That’s one reason why the prices for windows are cheaper at All Star Products.
Now, as for the selection, most window replacement companies tend to have just one brand of window that you could choose from. They would likely be able to offer any type of window, such as a casement, double hung, picture, bay, bow, and so forth, but they offer one manufacturer. Sure, they can get custom sizes, too, but at All Star Products, you get to choose from several different brands, which opens up the possibilities for you and your home by a tremendous amount.
If you thought that windows were windows and that it doesn’t really matter what kind you get, that you are just going to get the same type of window to replace what’s already there, then you’re already missing out on a lot of potential.
Windows can improve and increase the value (both aesthetic and financial) of your house tremendously. The only real home improvement project (aside from adding on more rooms) that can offer the same boost in value is renovating the kitchen. When you have that much potential to increase the value of your home, you should take the time to get to know what options are available.
Some windows offer features like being able to open the windows inward which is great for cleaning the outside part of the window. This can be especially beneficial for second floor windows and higher, as you wouldn’t have to struggle with an extension ladder to reach them, or pay a professional window cleaner.
What about glazing? This refers to the panes of glass that the window has. Double glazed windows have two panes, essentially. This adds to the energy efficiency, or the ability to keep warm air inside your home and cold air out, during the winter. If you choose double glazed windows that are sealed with gas (argon or krypton), this improves the energy efficiency even more. Krypton is more energy efficient than argon, but it also costs more. You could also choose triple glazed windows sealed with glass, but you’re going to end up with much heavier windows, and that might not be practical in certain applications.
Now, about that Low-E term you notice earlier. Low-E is a fairly new creation. It’s a film that is added to the glazing that can block UV rays. UV rays from the sun are what bring in the heat that you feel. It’s nice to have that heat coming in during the winter months as it can help warm your home when you’re tired of paying for heating oil, gas, or the electric bill. However, during the summer, it can force you to run the air conditioning far too much. With Low-E added to your windows, you can block a significant amount of the UV rays and help keep your home cooler in the summer. Because of the way in which it works (the angle of the sun, etc.), Low-E windows will allow UV rays to help warm your home during the winter.
Blocking UV rays is also great for protecting your furniture, carpeting, rugs, and other items from fading over time.
